Various correctional issues of interest to the British Commonwealth address international prisoner transfer for Thailand; alternative sentencing in Germany; drug prevention, enforcement, and control in Vietnam; a profile of the American Correctional Association; and an overview of correctional issues inside and outside the Commonwealth.
Abstract
The article on international prisoner transfer for Thailand considers a new concept of corrections, statistics on foreign prisoners in Thailand, the concept of international prisoner transfer, the Thai experiment in prisoner transfer, treaties with foreign countries, and the general procedure for prisoner transfer. The paper on drug policy in Vietnam reviews the drug problem in that country; summarizes recent solutions to the problem; and addresses international cooperation in drug prevention, enforcement, and control. An overview of Germany's sentencing practices discusses the effects of imprisonment, the role of the judiciary, and future research. The profile of the American Correctional Association considers its mission, core values and guiding principles, and vision elements. Some correctional issues briefly considered with the British Commonwealth are the use of sacramental wine in New South Wales inmate religious services, a violent prevention strategy in Victoria, Australia, and an essay on adapting to change. Reports on countries outside the Commonwealth address criminological research in Japan, a correctional grant program in the United States, and probation and parole population in the United States.
