This special section presents six articles focusing on international policing.
Abstract
The first article reviews the development of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), highlighting U.S. involvement and initiatives. The second article discusses terrorism in Italy, noting that despite a dramatic decrease in the actual number of terrorist incidents, the Red Brigades have established strong international connections with potential for extensive action. A brief article argues that crime in the Soviet Union is a larger problem than commonly supposed. A discussion of enforcement of the drunken driving law in West Germany notes that in Hamburg 1 out of 3 drivers tested for alcohol impairment show positive results. The next article reviews Dutch police efforts in rendering service, which takes from 20 to 50 percent of an officer's time. The final article analyzes neighborhood watch programs in New Zealand. Media coverage of these programs enhanced their operations. Notes and photographs are provided with individual articles.
