Experts provide a systematic overview of drug trafficking and drug control throughout the world, with attention to money laundering and asset forfeiture. Country and regional studies describe the history and structure of the drug industry/trade, governmental and societal responses, and international controls and networks.
Abstract
The country and regional studies contain an introductory section that outlines the geographical area and the history of the drug trade in the region. A section on the structure of the industry/trade examines who produces what and why and where the product goes. The section on governmental response identifies any measures that have been taken to suppress the drug trade, along with their success or failure. The section on societal reaction notes whether or not the general public has become involved in efforts to stem the demand for drugs. A section on international linkages for control examines the types of international agreements and other types of cooperation between the particular country and other countries or international organizations. A concluding section notes whether there are any lessons to learned from the particular country's experience with the drug trade. The countries and regions examined are the United States, Canada, Bolivia, Brazil, Caribbean offshore financial centers, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Peru, the Southern Cone, Western Europe and the European Community, The Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the USSR, Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, India, the Golden Triangle, and Singapore.
