Three papers focus on links between international drug trafficking and international terrorism. Some general papers on international drug trafficking consider drug control in various areas of the world and how the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is cooperating with other nations to address international drug trafficking. One paper reviews the history of significant international efforts to control drug abuse and drug trafficking, with a focus on United Nations efforts in the face of expanding illicit drug supply and demand. A paper that profiles participants in international drug trafficking covers the producers, transformers, carriers, distributors, and organizers. Papers on drug control in particular nations cover China, Sri Lanka, and the United States. The discussions of drug control in the United States address drug-control research by the National Institute of Justice, the use of asset forfeiture in drug cases, an assessment of the Federal drug control effort from the perspective of a local police administrator, Dade County's (Florida) effort to counter drug distribution, and the proactive targeting of major drug offenders in the District of Columbia.
