Abstract
THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE (IACP) WAS ESTABLISHED IN ST. LOUIS, MO., IN 1871 AND HAS SINCE GROWN TO A MEMBERSHIP OF NEARLY 11,000 PEOPLE IN 64 COUNTRIES. THE OVERVIEW COVERS THE ORIGINS OF THE IACP, DEVELOPMENT, ORGANIZATION AND FUNCTIONS, AND PLANS. INCLUDED ARE SUMMARY DESCRIPTIONS OF THE PROGRAMS OF THE BUREAU OF ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES (UNITED NATIONS LIAISON, ANNUAL CONFERENCES, LIBRARY SERVICES, FISCAL MANAGEMENT, SUPPORT SERVICES, INFORMATION DISTRIBUTION); BUREAU OF OPERATIONS AND RESEARCH (TRAINING BULLETINS, FILM/SLIDE PROGRAMS, POLICE REFERENCE NOTEBOOK, HISTORICAL STUDIES, COMPUTERIZED GEOGRAPHIC BASE FILES PROJECT, CLANDESTINE TACTICS AND TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT, EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGY CENTER, POLICE DISCIPLINE SERIES, UNIFORM CRIME RECORDS AUDIT SERVICE, CONSULTING SERVICES, SURVEYS, OPERATIONAL IMPROVEMENT SERVICE, ADMINISTRATIVE AND OPERATIONAL REVIEW; AND BUREAU OF GOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS AND LEGAL COUNSEL.
