This description of female clients served by the Institute on Black Chemical Abuse in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn., between January 1985 and December 1986 (445) addresses background characteristics, stressful influences in client households and relationships, and a comparison of the subsets of female clients.
Abstract
Data were obtained from intake forms. Data in the background profile cover client classification, average age, race, and parenting status. Other sociodemographic information addresses household composition, living situation, employment, income, education, religious preference, legal involvement, referral source, service use, parental influence, client parents' profile, abuse experience, chemical use, average age at first use of mood-altering drugs, chemical use-related situation, alcohol/drug use problems, and intake conclusions. Data on stressful influences pertain to emotional weariness, financial problems, low esteem, unresolved grief, unresolved guilt, unresolved shame, poor ability to express needs, poor ability to get needs met, physical weariness, withdrawal from family members, and discipline problems. Data are presented for all clients and the following subsets: adults, youth, clients concerned about the chemical abuse of another, and abused clients. 25 tables.
