COMPARISON OF INMATE'S AND PUBLIC'S PERCEPTIONS OF THE CAUSES OF CRIME, PRISON LIFE, THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT SYSTEM, AND THE GOALS OF OUR PRISONS.
Abstract
THE INMATES RECOGNIZED AND SUPPORTED THE GOALS OF CORRECTIONS, AS DID THE PUBLIC. HOWEVER, THE INMATES EXPRESS THE BELIEF THAT WE ARE FAILING TO PROVIDE THE MECHANISMS FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THESE GOALS. IT MAY BE THAT THIS IS CLOSER TO THE TRUTH THAN THE PUBLIC'S PERCEPTIONS. FURTHERMORE, THIS SUGGESTS THAT COMPLETE EVALUATION OF REHABILITATION PROGRAMS SHOULD CLOSELY HEED THE EVALUATIONS OF THE RECIPIENTS OF THOSE PROGRAMSTHE INMATES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
