This report presents statistics on inmate assaults on other inmates and on correctional personnel during 1990 in California.
Abstract
A total of 4,184 inmate incidents occurred in institutions and camps during the year, a decrease of 19.2 percent from 1989. The rate of incidents declined to 4.5 per average daily institutional population, a decline for the sixth consecutive year. The highest rate was 12.7 in 1984. Assaults accounted for 55 percent of the incidents. Eleven male inmates were fatally assaulted. Eight hundred fifty- eight assaults on staff took place, of which 23.4 percent involved the use of weapons by inmates. Tables showing trends since 1981 and data for individual institutions
