This plan for a computerized court information system for Victoria, Australia, explains the system requirements and the alternatives and recommendations for hardware, communications links, and implementation time.
Abstract
It also gives the costs and benefits of the proposed implementation schedule. The courts currently make minimal use of computer systems. The new information system will improve case flow management, the court registry, cash management, jury management, judicial support, and administrative systems. They will help support the concept of a paperless court and will also link with external agencies to provide an overall justice information system for Victoria. The system will consist of large central computers plus smaller computers at selected locations. One network will link all the courts. The case management and cash management systems will be implemented first, because they will provide significant benefits. The system should provide a positive cash flow in the third year and will permit recovery of the development costs in 7 years. Appendixes giving detailed descriptions of individual projects, a model
