Abstract
Procedures specified for handling classified information cover the classification and marking of the information, storage, safeguards during use, transmission, reproduction, and destruction. Specifications for personnel security clearances encompass clearance procedures for various types of personnel and the termination and downgrading of personnel security clearances. Procedures for facility security clearances are also prescribed. Separate sections are devoted to area and visitor control. Specific security measures are designated for safeguarding classified information during the development stages, performance of service, or production of material by the graphic arts industry. Detailed procedures for handling classified information pertaining to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and other overseas operations are indicated, as are security requirements for automatic data processing systems and critical nuclear weapon design information. Other sections of the manual specify security procedures pertaining to subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers; consultants; parent-subsidiary and multiple facility organizations; and sensitive compartmented information and communications security information. Thirteen appendixes provide further descriptions of security measures for various aspects of handling classified information. A subject index is provided.
