Abstract
The amendments considered and indexed are S. 2434, S. 2441, S. 2442, and H.R. 6704. S. 2434 extends the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974 (JJDPA) through fiscal 1984, authorizing $125 million in fiscal 1981 and $125 million in each succeeding year for the programs created by the act. S. 2441 and S. 2442 constitute the Violent Juvenile Crime Control Act of 1980, which is designed to strengthen and stabilize the 6-year congressional commitment to the JJDPA while simultaneously mandating that the Administrator of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has final accountability and responsibility for implementing the juvenile justice provisions of the act. The Runaway and Homeless Youth Act is retained and administered by the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare's Youth Development Bureau, Runaway and Homeless Youth Division, H.R. 6704 extends the JJDPA for 4 years and provides amendments to strengthen efforts to prevent and control juvenile delinquency and improve the juvenile justice system. It also extends the Runaway and Homeless Youth program for 4 years at currently authorized levels.
