REPORT ON A STUDY WHICH REVIEWED FAMILY DYNAMICS AND DYSFUNCTION IN 14 CASES OF INCEST SEEN IN THE CHILD PSYCHIATRY CLINIC AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OREGON HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER.
Abstract
THE CASES FELL INTO THREE CATEGORIES - FATHER-DAUGHTER INCEST, INCEST WITH UNCLE, AND MULTIPLE INCEST. THE TYPICAL FAMILY CONSTELLATION WAS THAT OF A CHRONICALLY DEPRESSED MOTHER, AN ALCOHOLIC AND VIOLENT FATHER OR STEPFATHER, AND AN ELDEST DAUGHTER WHO WAS FORCED TO ASSUME MANY OF HER MOTHER'S RESPONSIBILITIES. THE NEED FOR PHYSICIANS TO BE ALERT TO THE POSSIBILITY OF INCEST IN SUCH HIGH-RISK FAMILIES IS STRESSED. REFERENCES ARE INCLUDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
