Directed to administrators and personnel of mediation agencies and juvenile correctional facilities, this manual provides step-by-step instructions for planning and implementing a mediation program in a youth corrections facility.
Abstract
The manual recommends a six-step process. It starts with developing the capacity for program implementation by developing a partnership between the mediation agency and the youth correctional facility, addressing implementation issues, and defining the roles of the program coordinators and implementation team. Additional steps include program planning and implementation, staff orientation and training, resident orientation, the selection of staff and resident mediators, mediation training, and program implementation and maintenance. A training outline and 24 training activities are also provided. Each activity is described with respect to the time and materials involved, the learning objectives, the procedures, and handouts and worksheets. Appended forms, list of resource organizations and periodicals, order form, and 7 references
