This paper describes how the American criminal justice system inflicts special and extraordinary harm on the families of the poor.
Abstract
Too often the families of prisoners disintegrate under the pressure of loneliness, sexual frustration, stigmatization, and depleted economics. The author concludes that while the disparate need for broad institutional changes exists, comparatively minor changes in each stage of the criminal justice system could effectively minimize the erosion of the families of the incarcerated.
