The model developed here by the California Department of the Youth Authority is designed to help institutions and parole regions in developing impact of crime on victims curricula in a consistent manner throughout the Department.
Abstract
The specific objectives of the curriculum are to help students take responsibility for past criminal actions, understand the impact of crime on victims, develop crime prevention and personal safety skills, and increase their ability to contribute to, and bond with, their family and community. The text is divided into eight chapters, including an introduction and discussions of property crime, domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, elderly abuse, assault, robbery, and homicide. Each chapter includes a pre-and posttest, objectives for the lesson, vocabulary words, accountability statement, and activities to give students the opportunity to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition, the lessons emphasize crime-related myths and realities, the violent epidemic, victim, victimizer, and sources of help. 1 appendix
