Covering fiscal years 1981-83, this Illinois Department of Corrections report discusses programs in adult institutions and centers, community supervision, and juvenile institutions and services.
Abstract
The 1983 fiscal plan will emphasize problem identification and needs assessment feedback from all sections of the Department. Adult institutions and centers have successfully managed an increasing prison/center population while improving facility conditions. Two new medium-security adult institutions were opened in 1981 and 1982. In addition, a plan was developed for mental health service units and crisis intervention teams in each adult institution. Concerning community supervision, operational authority and control were decentralized to area superintendents and local supervisors to allow key decisionmaking at the appropriate level. A reentry awareness program was implemented that includes informational brochures for inmates and monthly parole schools using community supervision staff as resource persons. Accomplishments for the Juvenile Division in 1981-82 included the development of the Juvenile Management Information System and classification system, one juvenile facility's accreditation from the American Correctional Association, and development of a plan to meet the special mental health needs of juvenile offenders. Tables and figures contain correctional data and budget information.
