This article discusses the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Web site enhancements to increase membership participation on legislative efforts.
Abstract
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Web site now includes special features to facilitate communication with members’ representatives and senators forging member participation to help the IACP advance its legislative priorities. The new features are located on the IACP Legislative and Policy Web page (http://www.theiacp.org/leg_policy/). The IACP Legislative Action Center has three main components. First, A Guide to Congress provides a congressional directory where members can identify representatives and senators. Second, Issues and Legislation allows members to perform keyword searches on legislation that has been introduced. Lastly, Write to Congress offers members the ability to generate email messages or printed letters that can be sent to members of Congress. When important issues are being considered on Capitol Hill, the IACP Legislative Office will actively solicit member assistance in contacting Congress through legislative alerts posted on the Web site. General tips for writing members of Congress are listed.
