This instructional manual for teachers presents material to be used in conjunctions with programs related to street gang involvement, youth delinquency prevention, and intervention for at-risk children.
Abstract
The objectives of the program are to heighten the awareness of those who use the material, to work with other supplementary material that deals with prevention and intervention, and to assist youths in exercising sound judgment concerning their lives and futures. Topics covered in the 14 presentation sessions outlined here include gang definitions and characteristics, terminology and slang, understanding gangs, consequences of gang participation, reasons for joining gangs, and choices available to students. Other topics include choosing friends, children's personal rights, dealing with peer pressure, understanding stress, self-esteem, universal gang hand signs, and typical pregang behavior.
