This instructional video developed by the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART) Office explains how the Sex Offender Registry Tool (SORT), which is provided by the SMART Office free, can facilitate a jurisdiction’s compliance with the provisions of the federal Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).
The SMART Office is responsible for providing states and local jurisdictions with the knowledge and tools they need to comply with SORNA’s provisions, which are intended to improve the management of high-risk convicted sex offenders. In facilitating jurisdictions’ compliance with SORNA. SMART researched various IT systems for their cost-effectiveness in managing information on sex offenders required under SORNA provisions.
