Abstract
FOCUSING ON ENTRY-LEVEL POSITIONS WITHIN CLASS A (UNIFORMED AND DETECTIVE) CATEGORIES AND CLASS B AND C (TECHNICAL AND COMMUNICATION) PERSONNEL, JOB ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES INCLUDED REVIEWS OF SOURCE MATERIALS AND PUBLISHED RESEARCH, PERSONAL INTERVIEWS, DIRECT OBSERVATION, TASK ANALYSIS, USE OF THE CRITICAL INCIDENT TECHNIQUE, POSITION ANALYSIS QUESTIONNAIRE, SURVEYS, PHYSICAL TASK INVENTORY, AND MAINTENANCE OF A WORK DIARY. THE APPENDIXES CONTAIN MATERIAL ON POLICE OFFICER ROLE AND TASK DEFINITIONS AS REPORTED BY PROJECT STAR, INCLUDING INTERVIEW MATERIAL, TASK INVENTORIES, AND JOB DESCRIPTIONS WITHIN RANKS. THE CRITICAL INCIDENT QUESTIONNAIRE IS PROVIDED ALONG WITH EXAMPLES OF CRITICAL INCIDENTS INCLUDED IN BEHAVIORAL JOB DIMENSIONS.
