This is a special double issue on the history and achievements of the United Nations in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice up to February 1992.
Abstract
Since the United Nations was formed following World War II, its anticrime activities developed considerably, reflecting the growing awareness of member states of the structural and sociological causes of crime, the need for measures to alleviate the economic and social conditions that foster crime, and the need for more effective strategies for incorporating crime prevention and criminal justice within the overall context of social and economic development. In February 1992, the UN's Economic and Social Council passed a resolution that dissolved the Committee on Crime Prevention and Control, and established the new Intergovernmental Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. This move parallels the trend of internationalization of crime, particularly organized crime. The text of the resolution is included. 3 tables, 1 figure
