THIS REPORT PRESENTS BASIC INFORMATION ON HISPANIC OFFENDERS IN THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY AND IN THE NEW JERSEY CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, INCLUDING AN ASSESSMENT OF THEIR NEEDS AND ATTITUDES.
Abstract
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE HISPANIC EXPERIENCE IN NEW JERSEY IS FOLLOWED BY AN OVERVIEW AND ANALYSIS OF WHERE HISPANIC OFFENDERS ARE AND OF WHAT SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO THEM AT BOTH THE COUNTY AND STATE LEVEL. THE FINDINGS OF A SURVEY OF THE EXPERIENCES OF HISPANIC PRISONERS COVER PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS, CRIMINAL BACKGROUND, EXPERIENCES WITH CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES, AND THE HISPANIC EXPERIENCE IN CONFINEMENT. A EIGHT-PAGE REFERENCE LIST (INCLUDNG BOOKS, ESSAYS, REPORTS, AND GOVERNMENT PUBLICATIONS) IS PROVIDED.
