Abstract
This report begins with an overview of the mission of the HIDTA Program, the National Drug Control Strategy, a history of the inception of HIDTA, a description of HIDTA Program policy and unity of effort, information on HIDTA investigative support centers, and offers insight on challenges for the future. The report provides FY 2001 Information Sheets on each of 30 individual drug trafficking areas such as, for example, Appalachia, Atlanta, Central Florida, Milwaukee, North Texas, Southeast Michigan, New Mexico, and Washington/Baltimore. Each Information Sheet provides data on the area mission statement, its year of designation, geographic area of responsibility, and contact telephone number. Abstracts are provided which describe the threat to the area by drug trafficking, the strategy designed to prevent duplication of efforts and produce maximum impact on drug-related crime and trafficking, a description of the investigative support center and its initiatives, and a discussion of the outcomes for the area. Participating Federal and State agencies and regional partnerships are identified. This report concludes with a summary of HIDTA points of contact.
