ANALYSIS OF THE SOCIAL AND FUNCTIONAL MOTIVATIONS DETERMINING THE FORMATION OF HIERARCHIES IN ORGANIZED CRIME WITH EXAMPLES FROM ORGANIZED CRIME IN ITALY AND THE UNITED STATES.
Abstract
BY ACCEPTING THE VALUES OF A CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION, THE CRIMINAL ENTERS ITS HIERARCHY AND SUBJECTS HIMSELF TO ITS ORDER. THIS HIERARCHY, WHICH OFTEN ASSUMES A PARAMILITARY CHARACTER, EXTENDS ITSELF BOTH VERTICALLY AND HORIZONTALLY, AND BRINGS AS COROLLARIES THE NECESSITY OF DISCIPLINE AND CAREER RANKS. KNOWN CRIMINAL ORGANIZATIONS, SUCH AS MAFIA AND COSA NOSTRA, HAVE RIGID HIERARCHICAL STRUCTURE WHICH IS DESCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR AND ALSO ACTIVITIES OF SPECIAL TRIBUNALS TO JUDGE UNDISCIPLINED ACTS. THE AUTHOR INDICATES THE NECESSITY OF ANY HUMAN GROUP, HOWEVER ANTISOCIAL, TO ESTABLISH AND TO ACCEPT AN ORDER FOR ITS EXISTENCE AND SURVIVAL AS THE MAIN MOTIVATION FOR THE FORMATION OF HIERARCHICAL STRUCTURES WITHIN CRIMINAL ORGANIZATIONS. --IN ITALIAN
