Computer system security should include the ability to use the computer to protect itself against error or deliberate misuse by implementing hardware-asssociated security features, software controls, and data security features.
Abstract
Two papers examine these issues. One deals with methods which have been developed in external controls associated with hardware, in internal hardware controls, and in the hardware/software/data interface. Reference is made to important new developments in using computer-based techniques and hardware to improve security. Input, processing, and output controls are described. The second paper analyzes the security implications of designing, developing, and operating applications programs and recommends safeguards to improve the system's security. Three references are included. (Author abstract modified)
