The handbook, written as a quick guide for police, probation officers, judges, social workers, counselors, and other helping professionals, presents practical information about Southeast Asian youth and particularly those who are delinquents or at-risk of becoming delinquents.
Abstract
Organized into nine sections, this handbook provides general information about the people of Southeast Asia, the escape and refugee experience, the life of resettled Southeast Asian youths and their families, and the factors contributing to the success or failure of young Southeast Asian refugees. To provide a framework for understanding and action, the handbook's final chapter contains a detailed description of a history-taking model. The model, developed by Nidorf (1985), is to be used by practitioners making diagnoses and assessments of refugee youth. Its questions are designed to obtain valuable information about refugee adolescent adaptation and functioning along with insight into the origins of psychological dysfunction. 1 figure, 2 tables, and 13 references
