Abstract
The handbook is divided into six major parts. Part one provides the history and principles of crime prevention and security. Part two identifies and discusses loss and crime prevention methods, including environmental design, security surveys, fire and safety protection, and planning for emergencies and disasters. Part three focuses on security operations and equipment, including physical barriers, the use of locks in physical crime prevention, security lighting, and closed circuit television security. Part four discusses security and crime prevention applications such as computer security and campus security and crime prevention. Part five discusses such issues of loss and crime prevention management as obtaining the support of the community in reducing crime, and Part six discusses the future of security.
