Abstract
THE HANDBOOK IS DESIGNED FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS IN CLINICAL, COUNSELING, OR SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY; PSYCHIATRY; AND SOCIAL WORK AND FOR ADVANCED UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN BEHAVIORAL TECHNOLOGY AND PARAPROFESSIONAL PROGRAMS. SIX MAJOR ASPECTS OF STUDYING HUMAN PERSONALITY ARE DESIGNATED: PERSONALTIY THEORY, STRUCTURE AND DYNAMICS, DEVELOPMENT, ASSESSMENT, CHANGE, AND ADJUSTMENT. THE FIRST PART OF THE HANDBOOK ADDRESS GENERAL ISSUES IN BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENT, DESCRIBES A PSYCHOLOGICALLY BASED SYSTEM OF RESPONSE CLASSIFICATION, AND EXAMINES INSTRUMENTATION FOR BEHAVIORAL ASSESSMENT. GENERAL APPROACHES TO BEHAVIORAL ASSESSMENT ARE CONSIDERED IN THE SECOND PART. THESE INCLUDE BEHAVIORAL INTERVIEWS, SELF-REPORT SCHEDULES AND INVENTORIES, SELF-MONITORING PROCEDURES, DIRECT OBSERVATION IN BOTH ANALOG AND NATURALISTIC SETTINGS, AND PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGICAL TECHNIQUES. THE THIRD PART DISCUSSES THE ASSESSMENT OF SPECIFIC BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS THAT INVOLVE ANXIETY, ADDICTION, SEXUAL BEHAVIOR, SOCIAL SKILLS, MARITAL ACCORD AND CONFLICT, CHILD BEHAVIOR, AND PSYCHOTIC BEHAVIOR.
