THIS REPORT, DATED NOVEMBER 1976, DETAILS THE RESULTS OF TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE EFFORT CONDUCTED FOR THE GREENFIELD POLICE DEPARTMENT, WHICH HAS A SWORN POLICE STRENGTH OF SERVING A 12.5 MILE AREA WITH A POPULATION OF 32,000.
Abstract
THE CITY OF GREENFIELD IS LOCATED IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE MILWAUKEE METROPOLITAN AREA. THIS STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN TO EXAMINE SPECIFIC ASPECTS RELATED TO THE ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT OF THE POLICE. AFTER A REVIEW OF THE CRIME STATISTICS, CRIME TRENDS, AND TRAFFIC AND ACCIDENT STATISTICS, AN ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEM IS PRESENTED. SPECIFIC ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT ASPECTS EXAMINED IN THIS STUDY ARE: THE MANPOWER AND STAFFING OF THE PATROL AND DETECTIVE BUREAUS. THE RANK STRUCTURE OF THE DEPARTMENT, THE ADMINISTRATIVE CHANGES INTRODUCED IN THE PRECEDING THREE YEARS, THE POTENTIAL FOR DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL BUREAUS AND UNITS, THE DEPARTMENT FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT, AND THE MIDDLE AND UPPER MANAGEMENT SALARY STRUCTURES RECOMMENDATIONS ON EACH OF THESE MAJOR STUDY AREAS ARE INCLUDED.
