This paper identifies the principal sources of criminal justice information in the Republic of Slovenia, the forms in which the information is presented, and the purposes for which the information is used.
Abstract
The principal sources of criminal justice information in Slovenia are individual government agencies, organs, and institutions, which systematically collect, process, and publish data about crime and delinquency and their processing. The most important of such agencies are criminal justice agencies (the police, state prosecutor's offices, courts, and correctional agencies), the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Justice, the Statistical Office, and other agencies that may deal with various aspects of criminal justice matters. Most of these agencies and institutions produce information and publish it in the form of official publications, including official reports, statistical reports, statistical yearbooks, reports to the Nation, and annual reports or analyses based on official data. As official publications issued by government agencies, they cannot be purchased in bookshops, but they are available in one form or another in the offices and libraries of those government agencies and institutions that issue these publications, as well as in special criminal justice libraries. In recent years these official publications have been supplemented with the electronic dissemination of information from various databases, legal and criminal justice information systems, and most recently the Internet. This paper discusses how various individual agencies and institutions package and disseminate criminal justice information and the purposes for which such information is used.
