Abstract
INMATES SENT FROM CENTRAL PRISONS ARE CLASSIFIED AND SENT TO ONE OF THREE INSTITUTIONAL PROGRAMS - A TYPE OF WORK CAMP FOR RECIDIVISTS; A VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTER, WHERE FIRST OFFENDERS ARE ABLE TO COMPLETE FULL APPRENTICESHIPS IN VARIOUS TRADES; AND AN OPEN AGRICULTURAL COLONY WHERE INMATES DEVOTE THEIR TIME TO RAISING LIVESTOCK, GRAIN, AND VEGETABLE CROPS. INMATES RECEIVE COMPENSATION FOR ALL WORK THEY DO, UP TO 50 PERCENT OF WHICH CAN BE SENT TO THE INMATE'S FAMILIES. TWENTY PERCENT IS ALLOCATED FOR THE INMATE'S PERSONAL EXPENSES, 25 PERCENT GOES INTO A POST-RELEASE FUND, AND THE REMAINING 5 PERCENT COVERS PREMIUMS FOR WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION INSURANCE. GUARDS IN THE AGRICULTURAL COLONY ARE UNARMED AND CONJUGAL VISITS ARE PERMITTED FOR MARRIED INMATES. --IN FRENCH...ELW
