CHAIRMAN OF THE SWEDISH COMMITTEE FOR INSTITUTIONAL TREATMENT WITHIN THE PENAL SYSTEM DESCRIBES THE MAIN RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE COMMITTEE.
Abstract
THE COMMITTEE GAVE ITS REPORT IN 1971. IN THE REPORT IT IS EMPHASIZED THAT INSTITUTIONALIZED TREATMENT SHOULD BE AS OPEN AS POSSIBLE. IN ACCORDANCE WITH THIS, THE COMMITTEE PROPOSES THE ABOLITION OF OBLIGATORY TREATMENT AND ALSO ABOLITION OF OBLIGATION TO WORK. INSTITUTIONAL TREATMENT IS TO BE SEEN AS AN EXTENSION OF LIFE IN FREEDOM. SPECIAL ATTENTION IS PAID BY THE COMMITTEE TO THE RIGHTS OF THE INMATES. --IN SWEDISH
