This article describes the structure, operations, and interagency cooperation of the French municipal police.
Abstract
The recent rise of municipal police forces in France has occurred within the division of responsibilities between the state and decentralized local communities. From having been integrated into mainstream police activity, municipal police forces are now tending to become instruments of social regulation and a channel of communication between the population and the town hall. Their insertion into local systems can be done either aggressively or contractually.
