Abstract
Speakers noted the importance of beginning prevention efforts despite risks and imperfect understanding of the issue; the importance of social change in violence prevention; and the experiences of violence prevention projects in Kansas City, Boston, Contra Costa County (California), Atlanta, and Paramount, California. Other presentations focused on funding, strategies directed toward the general population of minority youth, strategies for high-risk youth, weapons and minority youth violence, early childhood interventions, and the need for a public health commitment to violence prevention.
