Abstract
The Florida Statewide Prevention FIRST Conference 2000 has been held annually for the past 14 years. In meeting Florida’s mission in creating a substance abuse-free environment, the conference has become one of Florida’s greatest sources of substance abuse and violence prevention information, training, and collectively shared experiences. Statewide prevention conference goals were established under Florida’s mission and included: (1) inform, train, motivate, and link Floridians who are committed to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse prevention; (2) provide Floridians with opportunities to succeed in their prevention endeavors; and (3) recognize the prevention accomplishments of Floridians. In addition, conference objectives were established and included: motivate, inform, educate, and build coalitions. In advancing the cause of prevention, this report contains speeches of the 15 general session speakers. Following the speeches was an outline of the content that was developed over a 9-month period for those who attended the conference. The goal of the conference was for each participant to leave more knowledgeable, motivated, and engaged.
