A survey of the salary and fringe benefits programs of various local and county law enforcement agencies throughout Florida for fiscal year 1980 is provided.
Abstract
Three categories of data are provided: law enforcement salaries, fringe benefits, and hazardous duty pay. Salary data is provided for law enforcement personnel in municipalities with populations ranging from 20,000 to 100,000; sheriff department salaries are provided for counties with populations ranging from less than 50,000 to over 200,000. Minimum and maximum salaries are included for all levels of rank with statewide averages supplied. Average salary comparisons are made by rank. For example, the average combined statewide salary for the rank of sergeant and below is $15,964.63 annually ($699.10 less than average municipal rank and $91.18 greater than sheriff department ranks), while the average combined salary for the rank of lieutenant and above is $24,791.87 ($613.81 less than average municipal rank, and $18,67 greater than average sheriff department rank). Combined statewide averages of fringe benefit surveys show that 92.25 percent of the agencies provide life insurance policies with an average death benefit provision of $14,166.63; 42.5 percent of the agencies provide an annual clothing allowance which averages $228.97 per annum; and 96.88 percent participate in a recognized employee pension program. Data are included for overtime pay, longevity pay, equipment, vacation, sick leave, and other fringe benefits. Data for hazardous pay schedules is less detailed. Tabular data are provided.
