This guidebook addresses the criminal justice practitioner's research and development information needs by examining the educational resources of Florida's public universities and providing an annotated bibliography of materials on police, courts, corrections, and other criminal justice topics.
Abstract
Part I first summarizes the criminal justice degree programs offered by the nine institutions in Florida's State University System, including the unit's location within the university, the degree offered, faculty size, and program emphasis. A directory of the 58 faculty involved in these programs covers their education, research and service interests, and practical experience. The contributions that these individuals can make to an agency are assessed. The guide emphasizes that undergraduate and graduate criminal students are a valuable source of manpower for agencies, describing internship programs and listing field placement contacts. Other pertinent resources within the university are reviewed, as are criminal justice programs offered by community colleges and private institutions. Recommendations to assist agencies in developing educational research support are provided. Part II indexes books, articles, dissertations, theses, government reports, and other publications of interest to practitioners. They are categorized into four major areas: police services; courts; correctional services; and other criminal justice topics, such as crime prevention, juvenile justice, and evaluation. Most include brief annotations.
