This document describes the goals, strategies, and activities of the drug demand reduction program of the Florida National Guard; the program supports initiatives that involve youth in events and activities designed to raise their self-esteem, enhance their self-discipline, and assist in their development as responsible and drug-free members of society.
Abstract
The program emphasizes collaborative efforts, the role of the family, public awareness, economic development, prevention that addresses all forms of drug abuse, the importance of social norms, and leadership. The Florida National Guard submits a plan to the governor each year for approval before submitting it to the National Guard Bureau to obtain Federal resources. Volunteers from National Guard units have a major role in achieving the goals of the program. Possible activities include adopt-a-school programs, volunteering for tutoring and other school-based activities, community service such as the co-sponsorship of athletic activities and promotions of slogan campaigns, activities within the Florida National Guard, and financial and administrative support.
