This report presents statistics on the registration of firearms in England and Wales in 1994; at the end of the year, the number of certificates had increased to 140,200, a 1 percent increase from a year earlier.
Abstract
One percent of the 11,700 applications for new firearm certificates were refused, a smaller proportion than in previous years. A total of 670,000 shotgun certificates were on issue at the end of 1994, the lowest number since 1971. A total of 1.3 percent of new applications for shotgun certificates were refused. In addition, 2,520 dealers were registered to sell firearms in 1994, 80 more than in 1993. Firearms permits granted to visitors covered about 2,000 persons, with a further 5,700 covered by visitors' shotgun permits. Maps, tables, and figure
