Data on arson occurrences in Kansas in 1979 are presented in this annual report.
Abstract
There were 4,637 fires in Kansas in 1979, and the loss of property due to fires totaled $28,097,091. A total of 61 deaths occurred which were due to fire in the same year. A total of 902 arsons occurred in the State in 1979, and almost 75 percent of all arson reports were submitted between July and December. Over half of all property burned in arsons was structural. Arsons resulted in reported property damage of $8,183,168. A total of 175 clearances of arson cases happened in 1979, and 44 percent of all arson cases which were cleared involved only juveniles. The report includes background information on arson data collection, a profile of fires in 1979 from the Kansas State Fire Marshal, and a profile of arson based on the Uniform Crime Report.
