The President's budget for fiscal year 1988 requested $3 billion for Federal programs to control drug use, and that budget request is analyzed by government agency.
Abstract
Principal decreases and increases proposed in the 1988 budget focused on grants for State and local drug law enforcement, the Drug-Free Schools Program, capital improvements, the Drug Enforcement Administration, prisons, foreign assistance for drug control, the U.S. Customs Service, drug treatment and prevention programs, and Indian health services. The congressional reaction to the budget and the President's response are noted. Data are provided on the budget authority for Federal programs for the 1986-1988 fiscal years. The agencies covered in the tables include the Departments of Justice, Treasury, Transportation, State, Agriculture, Defense, Education, and Labor. Data and charts are also presented that reflect drug abuse prevention and control funding levels for the 1981-1988 fiscal years.
