Even in Sweden, where the crime rate is relatively low when compared to other countries, many people are crime victims, and the fear of crime is high among the general public.
Abstract
While the fear of crime can best be fought through an effective crime prevention program, the measures to be taken must be based upon an accurate assessment of the factors which prompt fear of crime. This volume consists of papers presented at a conference on the fear of crime held in Stockholm in 1990. The topics covered include women and fear, the issue of safety in today's society, values and selection in the news, the consequences of fear, how people's experience of risk is affected, drug addiction and our children, and the fear of being mobbed.
