The European Network for Policewomen collated information obtained from questionnaires sent to Network member countries and contacts in preparation for the European Conference 1992 "Quality Through Equality," held at the Police Staff College, Bramshill, England.
Abstract
The primary purpose of the Network is to optimize the position of policewomen in European police forces by establishing contacts, exchanging knowledge and experiences, promoting mutual support, stimulating international research, organizing a biannual conference, and establishing productive relationships with European politicians. The questionnaire focused on the position of women in various European police forces. It was designed to ascertain the number of policewomen, the distribution of policewomen in various ranks, employment policies and quotas, and maternity and family- related policies. Each country summary consists of a demographic sketch, brief history and explanation of the form of government, outline of the entire police structure, and answers to the questionnaire.
