ARTICLE POINTS OUT THAT A PROPER BALANCE IS REQUIRED IN POLICE DEPARTMENT GOALS IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN MORALE AND EFFICIENCY.
Abstract
POLICE ADMINISTRATORS SHOULD NOT DECEIVE THEMSELVES IN SETTING GOALS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, ACCORDING TO THE AUTHOR. THEY HAVE TO BE MINDFUL OF THE WORKAHOLIC AND, AT THE SAME TIME, NOT ALLOW TALENTED OFFICERS TO BECOME BURNED OUT WHEN THEIR GOALS ARE NOT REALIZED. THE AUTHOR ALSO DISCUSSES THE PETER PRINCIPLE, AND THE NEED TO MAINTAIN RESPECT FOR THE VIEWS AND LIFESTYLE OF EACH OFFFICER. COMMITMENTS ARE REQUIRED UP AND DOWN THE CHAIN OF COMMAND TO MEET THESE GOALS....BDS
