This fact book, the fifth annual report produced by the D.C. Kids Count Collaborative on the lives of children and their families in the District of Columbia, provides data on the well-being of children in the city to help community leaders develop strategic plans and policies that support children and families.
Abstract
The fact book starts by summarizing information on general population trends in the District of Columbia, economic security, family attachment and community support, child health, safety and personal security, and education. The fact book goes on to provide statistics on selected indicators of child well-being in the District of Columbia, according to the categories covered in the preceding summary. Data on selected indicators of child well-being are then tabulated by city ward. Findings on child well-being are discussed in terms of welfare reform and strategies and recommendations to improve the situation of young residents of the District of Columbia.
