THE CENTER IS A MULTI-AGENCY ORGANIZATION DESIGNED TO UPGRADE EMPLOYMENT OF YOUTH LIVING IN THE HUNTERS POINT AREA OF SAN FRANCISCO.
Abstract
AFTER A DESCRIPTION OF THE CENTER'S OPERATIONS, THE GOALS, OUTCOMES, AND APPROACH OF THE PROGRAM ARE EVALUATED. THREE MAJOR CRITICISMS ARE OFFERED A SERIOUS LACK OF RESEARCH ON THE BASIC CHARACTERISTICS AND PROBLEMS OF HUNTERS POINT AND ON THE SUCCESSES AND FAILURES OF PAST EFFORTS OF A SIMILAR NATURE, THE SERVICES AVAILABLE SEEMED TOO LIMITED IN SCOPE TO DEAL EFFECTIVELY WITH THE MANY PROBLEMS UNDERLYING YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT, AND 3) EXCEPT FOR SPORADIC EFFORTS, THE CENTER GENERALLY IGNORED THE ACTIONS AND ATTITUDES OF THE DOMINANT COMMUNITY WHICH HAD ORIGINALLY HELPED TO CREATE THE PROBLEMS OF HUNTERS POINT.
