Abstract
THE EVALUATION WAS CONDUCTED BY 50 STATE, REGIONAL AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS IN THREE TRAINING PACKAGE DISSEMINATION CONFERENCES. THE PARTICIPANTS REPRESENTED STATEWIDE TRAINING COUNCILS, STATE POLICE ACADEMIES, REGIONAL AND COUNTY POLICE TRAINING ACADEMIES, LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENTS, AND VARIOUS OTHER LOCAL AGENCIES INVOLVED IN LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING AND EDUCATION. IN ADDITION, THE PROGRAM PACKAGE WAS EVALUATED BY A SPECIALIZED GROUP OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS INCLUDING MEMBERS FROM THE STATE, REGIONAL, AND LOCAL AGENCIES IN 28 STATES AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. ALSO PARTICIPATING WERE 16 FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION (FBI) AGENTS. THESE CONFERENCES WERE CONDUCTED ON A REGIONAL BASIS; THE EASTERN CONFERENCE WAS HELD IN QUANTICO, VA., THE MID-AMERICA PROGRAM, IN SPRINGFIELD, ILL., AND THE WESTERN CONFERENCE IN GOLDEN, COLO. A NUMBER OF RESEARCH TECHNIQUES WERE EMPLOYED AND THREE SEPARATE EVALUATION QUESTIONNAIRES WERE DESIGNED FOR USE IN THE CONFERENCES. OVER 75 PERCENT OF THE PARTICIPANTS CONSIDERED THE INFORMATION PRESENTED IN THE TRAINING PACKAGE RELEVANT AND USEFUL. THE SPECIFIC RECOMMENDATIONS MADE BY THE VARIOUS GROUPS ARE INCLUDED, AND TABULAR DATA AND SAMPLE QUESTIONNAIRES ARE PROVIDED. SEE NCJ-47598 FOR THE TRAINING MANUAL. (TAO)
