DISCUSSION OF A STUDY CONDUCTED USING THE RESIDENTS OF PHOENIX HOUSE IN NEW YORK CITY TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF POSITIVE CHANGES MADE IN CLIENTS OF RESIDENTIAL DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAMS.
Abstract
CROSS-SECTIONAL COMPARISONS OF RESIDENTS WHO HAVE SPENT DIFFERING LENGTHS OF TIME IN THE PROGRAM WERE COMBINED WITH LONGITUDINAL STUDIES WITH REPEATED MEASUREMENTS OF SEVEN PSYCHOPATHOLOGY SCALES TO DEMONSTRATE THAT LENGTH OF TIME IN TREATMENT WAS ASSOCIATED WITH IMPROVEMENT ON ALL SCALES. THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY DEMONSTRATE THAT THE PHOENIX HOUSE PROGRAM AND OTHERS OF SIMILAR STRUCTURE AND QUALITY ARE HELPING TO BRING ABOUT POSITIVE CHANGES IN THEIR CLIENTS.
