The Senate Committee on Finance proposes legislation that would establish an asset forfeiture fund in the Department of the Treasury to pay or reimburse certain costs and expenses related to seizures and forfeitures that occur through the Treasury Department's law enforcement operations.
Abstract
The Department of Justice and the Customs Service already have permanent indefinite appropriations to pay such costs. The proposed law would result in no net cost to the Federal Government. In addition, it will not significantly regulate any individuals or businesses, will not affect the personal privacy of individuals, and will result in no significant additional paperwork.
