This report makes recommendations concerning measures (retrofit options) that can be taken to reduce energy consumption at the Washinton Corrections Center in Shelton, Wash. Potential cost savings associated with each option are also presented.
Abstract
Following a description of the center and the energy survey, the report outlines each option. It recommends that an outside air temperature control system be installed, that domestic hot water temperature be reduced from 133 degrees F to 110 degrees F, and that heat from the boiler blow down be recovered. The following energy saving devices should be installed: showerheads in the housing units, time clocks on kitchen handling equipment, setback thermostat and timeclocks on gymnasium air handling units, and oxygen trim controller on the boilers. Steam traps should be repaired, weatherstripping installed, exhaust fan dampers in the automobile paint area repaired, and ballasts on fixtures in the multipurpose building disconnected. Other options include replacing incandescent lamps with fluorescent lamps, repairing the hot water leak in the kitchen, turning off steam kettles when not in use, replacing threshold at the entrance of Cedar Hall, and recovering heat from washer water. Diagrams are included.
